The BroCast Pickleball tournament which has been the talk of the school for months is now open for registration. This is a community event led by Evan Thomson which will be a community outreach event to raise money for charity. It is open to all HVHS students who want to participate, with a team fee of just $5 you will have a chance to compete in a fun-filled charity event. The aim is to have a positive impact on the community while promoting charity and friendly competition. The tournament is open to players of any skill level and accessible to any players. Sign ups can be found through BroCast Pickleball’s Instagram media page, with the bracket style competition it allows for multiple games and the chance for the best of the best to match up in the end. With the low entry free Evan and his assistants hope to raise a sufficient amount and build a community of members to continue playing pickleball after the first charity event.
BroCast Pickleball released newly updated rules to make sure the games are played fairly and play is kept consistent. Certain things that apply to just one player showing up so games can turn into a 1v1 match and the winner’s team can advance. Also, rules force rotations if 1 team has 2 members and the other only has 1 to keep it as fair as possible. In the end the outcome of the event will be determined by how many people sign up and hopefully it will be a great turnout for the community and charities involved.
Students at Hidden Valley had some things to say regarding the tournament.
Junior teammates Victor Avlia and Michael Ghobrial who were very confident in their chances of winning the whole tournament said “I think the event should be a good turnout for charity and I believe we will have no problem winning the entire tournament, none of the other teams are really competition. I think what Evan is doing is also super cool.”
Nate Stevens completely disagreed with Michael and Victor and thinks his team is superior compared to the rest, “we have been playing pickleball for years at this park, we understand the game better than everyone else. We shouldn’t really struggle with any of the teams and should walk away victorious.”
