Every March, in the United States, everyone acknowledges Women’s History Month. This is to recognize the achievements made and the contributions of women throughout history. This month gives the spotlight to the women who have had a major impact in the areas such as, sports, politics, and science. Schools and communities may have lessons or do certain activities about to honor the important female figures who have made an impact on the world today.
National Women’s History Alliance helps to lead the celebration every year by choosing a theme and promote education about women’s achievements. Historical figures such as Amelia Earhart, and Rosa Parks are often the main two highlighted during this months due to both having groundbreaking work and pull on future generations.
Students say learning about these women can be inspiring, Claire Mitchell a student interviewed about the topic, shared what she thinks about this month. “Women’s History Month is important to acknowledge because it reminds people to this day how much women have contributed to society.” Mitchell stated “It also shows to the younger generation that they can dream big and achieve goals too.”
Women’s History Month helps people to reflect on the past while supporting everything happening into the future. Through education and awareness, the celebration helps remind people the work that women in the past have accomplished, and ensures they are remembered.
