The Hidden Valley High School 2026 outdoor track season will run from March to May with athletes participating in several different events. It will be starting a bit later than other sports due to the ending of indoor track. Track athletes will be participating in multiple different events including relays, sprints, and hurdles.
The new track coach this year is Coach Garner, taking the place of Coach Oakes starting the 2025-2026 season. Additionally, there are three other assistant track coaches that will help these athletes throughout the season. He is a dedicated coach who previously coached Titan football here at Hidden Valley High School. Several athletes have broke school records in past track seasons and Coach Garner hopes to continue this legacy. He plans to help his athletes develop discipline and foster a positive mindset on and off the track.
Adriana Donodeo (10) expressed her enthusiasm for the Cosmopolitan Invitational Track and Field meet near the end of the season, which is the largest track event for middle and high schoolers in Southwest Virginia located at William Fleming High School. Some popular events include the 100 meter dash and and the 4×100 meter relay. Dante Keck (9) stated, “My personal goals for the season are to become a better runner and not get injured”. Both Donodeo and Keck agreed about the excitement for the new track coach and the upcoming season.
During track practice, each athlete practices differently according to which event they are competing in. For example, someone participating in the shot put event would practice that; on the contrary, people competing in sprint events would practice by running laps and doing intervals. However, all track members practice every event in order to have diverse abilities in case of someone not being able to compete the day of a meet.
The first track meet of this outdoor season takes place on Saturday, April 4th at Northside High School. The annual Titan Track Classic hosted by Hidden Valley High School will be on Saturday, April 18th, which doubles as the home track and field meet of the season.
Overall, Hidden Valley track coaches and athletes are excited for the upcoming season and hope to have a memorable and amazing season.
