The Class of 2025 is graduating this spring, and among its members is Liza Willis. Liza attended Hidden Valley High School for all four years and has been a highly successful student. This fall, she will attend Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, where she plans to major in biology.
After four formative years at Hidden Valley, Liza has plenty to be proud of. When asked which extracurricular activity meant the most to her, she pointed to her involvement in DECA.
“I’m very proud of myself for participating in DECA all four years of high school and competing in district- and state-level competitions,” she said. “DECA has helped me over the years with skills such as public speaking, professionalism, communication and handling pressure, which will be very beneficial in college and in the future.”
Leaving high school is bittersweet, especially after forming strong friendships and connections. Liza said her friends have been a huge part of her life, and she plans to stay connected by spending time with them during breaks and whenever she is home.
The next chapter of Liza’s life is just beginning. As she prepares to start college this fall, she is excited for the opportunities ahead.
“I’m extremely excited to start college in the fall and gain independence, try new things, meet new people and make lots of memories,” she said. “It’ll be hard leaving home, but I’m excited to have a fresh start.”
Before heading to Ashland, Liza looks forward to a fun-filled summer spent with friends and family while preparing for college life.
Liza credits much of her success to the support she received at Hidden Valley. One teacher, in particular, made a lasting impact on her.
“Mr. Hunt has made the biggest impact on me because I’ve had him all four years of high school,” she said. “He helped me grow not only with marketing, but also with my confidence, communication and public speaking, which I know will help me in the future. I appreciate how much he cares about his students’ success. Having him as a teacher for all four years allowed me to build a strong relationship with him, and he has played a big role in shaping who I am today.”
Hidden Valley is saying goodbye not only to a successful student but also to a creative and passionate individual. In her free time, Liza enjoys arts and crafts, especially watercolor painting and decorating projects.
“I love all things arts and crafts, and recently I’ve loved doing watercolor paintings and putting together little decor projects for my room,” she said. “I love being able to make things for myself and other people, and it’s something I always find relaxing and fun.”
Liza also said that the movie “Ramona and Beezus” resonates with her because she relates to Ramona’s feelings of not fitting in and appreciates how the film can lift her spirits.
As a community, Hidden Valley is proud of Liza and all she has accomplished. She will be missed as a thoughtful, passionate and engaged student. We wish her the best as she begins her journey at Randolph-Macon College and wherever her future takes her.
