The Foo Fighters recently released a new album, Your Favorite Toy, and it’s a noticeable shift from their older projects. Foo Fighters have been in the game since 1995, usually being known for their alternative rock sort of style, but this project leans much more into a heavier, punk-influenced style.
Overall, the album feels more aggressive than their past work. In some songs the screaming and production and mixing made the lyrics harder to understand compared to their earlier releases. People who enjoy screamo or more punk heavy genres may enjoy this switch of style, although not everyone agrees with the switch. After Medicine at Midnight, Foo Fighters’ previous studio album, fans were hoping for their old style to come back, but they completely switched.
In an interview, Abby Boothe said, “I think that it’s a little too different from their older stuff, too punk sounding, which I tend to usually like, but they went too far with it, especially compared to the rest of their discography which I liked a lot.” She also shared that her favorite song was “Caught in the Echo” because of its catchy guitar and relatable meaning, while her least favorite was “Spit Shine,” which she described as “a bit too scream heavy.”
In summary, Your Favorite Toy, Foo Fighters 12th studio album, showcases a different side of Foo Fighters sound. While change can be good for some, opinions like Abby’s suggest that not all Foo Fighters fans feel the change works in their favor.
