Three managers, one win in 2026, and only thirty-four points while sitting in the relegation zone. I am talking about none other than Tottenham Hotspur in this abysmal 2025-2026 Premier League campaign. The Spurs just recently hired new manager Roberto De Zerbi, and the Italian manager is looking to get the Lilywhites out of the relegation zone. The Spurs are swamped with injuries. Players like Kulusevski, Maddison, and other important squad members have been missing from the lineups for weeks.
With veteran Maddison back in the rotation this week, the Spurs are only two points behind the other London club, West Ham. It will be a bit of an uphill battle though, as star forward Xavi Simmons suffered a grueling injury against Wolves. Dominic Solanke will also not be playing the next fixture as Tottenham take a trip to Birmingham to face Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. Spurs will be missing a ton of attacking on Sunday, but De Zerbi knows the implications of this matchup. “The Spurs have a chance to get promoted, but it really depends on the way West Ham plays.” (Truett Bartlett 12).
What if the Spurs go down to the Championship? That has been one of the biggest questions in soccer discussions, and it isn’t as simple as them just bouncing back and returning to the Premier League. A lot of core players will most likely leave North London, and the Spurs will most likely have to rely on strong championship-caliber players and their youth systems. We haven’t seen much youth making the first team, but we know the strength of Tottenham’s youth system, as their PL2 squad just defeated Chelsea to move onto the semi-finals. Players like Mikey Moore are absolutely killing it on loan in the Scottish Premiership, with six goals with the Rangers this season. “Spurs need to tap into their youth as soon as possible; signing new players foreign to the club will not be good for the growth of the club.” (David Faltas 12).
Spurs fans around the world are hoping for a strong finish to the season. With Maddison back in the squad and a new manager, this could be the confidence booster the Spurs have been looking for all season. The end of the season is looking to be a gauntlet of a schedule, so their foot needs to be on the gas to finish off this pitiful 2025-2026 campaign.
