As her days at Hidden Valley High School come to a close, Maggie Macphail is preparing to begin an exciting new chapter. Known for her energy, determination and involvement throughout the school community, Maggie made the most of her high school experience through academics, athletics and service.
During her time at Hidden Valley, Maggie played tennis for three years while balancing an impressive list of extracurricular activities, including French Club, BETA Club, DECA, Mu Alpha Theta, English Honor Society and Journalism Club. Beyond school, she also dedicated time to youth ministry, lifeguarding and Help Save the Next Girl, demonstrating her commitment to helping others.
When reflecting on the people who made the biggest impact on her high school years, Maggie credits Miss Donathan, her French teacher for the past four years. Maggie described her as one of the funniest, kindest and most supportive people in her life. Through their time together, Miss Donathan taught Maggie far more than just the French language, helping shape the person she has become.
Outside of her busy schedule, Maggie finds peace in nature and enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors. She also appreciates comedy and proudly considers the mockumentary “Waiting for Guffman” her favorite movie of all time.
Above all else, Maggie values the friendships she built during high school and hopes to remain close with the people who helped shape her journey. Looking back, Maggie said the advice she would give her freshman self is simple: “It is okay to ask for help, it is okay to fall down, but it is not okay to give up.”
This fall, Maggie will attend Sewanee: The University of the South, where she plans to major in psychology while following a pre-law track. As she looks toward the future, Maggie is excited to continue learning, meeting new people and embracing new experiences.
