As the 2026 school year at Hidden Valley High School comes to a close, the school community is celebrating the accomplishments of its graduating seniors. Among them is Claire Mitchell, a dedicated student-athlete who plans to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University this fall to major in public health while following a pre-med track.
Throughout high school, Claire balanced academics, athletics and service to her community. She has been a varsity softball player since her sophomore year, helping contribute to many team victories while building lasting friendships with teammates along the way.
Claire also gained valuable experience in the medical field during high school. In her junior year, she began attending the Burton Center for Arts and Technology in the EMT program. During her time in the program, Claire earned several certifications, including becoming a licensed emergency medical technician. Since earning her EMT license, she has spent many hours volunteering at her local fire and EMS station, working to help members of the community.
When reflecting on her favorite high school memories, Claire said spending time with friends made the biggest impact. “I love seeing my friends at school, Bella DeGonzague and Riley Eades. They always bring a smile to my face every day, and I am so grateful to have them in my everyday life,” Claire said.
Although she will miss her high school memories, Claire is excited for what lies ahead. “I am excited to learn more about medicine in college,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to working toward my career and gaining friendships as well.”
Claire hopes to one day become a pediatrician because of her passion for helping others. Outside of academics and career goals, she also dreams of visiting Turks and Caicos Islands someday.
As a four-year member of the softball program and an active participant in clubs and extracurricular activities, Claire leaves Hidden Valley with a legacy of determination, compassion and school spirit.
