Prevention club at Hidden Valley is an organization which prioritizes student-driven movements which promote mental health awareness through positive events and resources. The Club initiates events related to suicide prevention, healthy lifestyle sources, inviting students into the club to collaborate. The club was recognized in the month of April due to a short film created by members regarding Mental Health Awareness, being a very significant moment in the legacy of Prevention Club, setting up a foundation for sustained, meaningful initiatives that support the school community.
The club has increased in number of members throughout the year through its success and recognition. Susie Metz, a junior part of Prevention club, inspires to pursue positive changes throughout the club prioritizing respect and appreciation for students’ mental health struggles. “Being part of Prevention Club made me feel like my ideas really mattered, and it was cool seeing how something small, like the Kindness Wall, could make a big impact on people’s days” (Metz 11).
Organized by Mrs. Worell, she described the award as a reflection of the club’s consistent effort and creativity. However, she emphasized that the film alone cannot represent the overall impact that students have had. Mrs. Worell described how introducing leadership, engaging in the Instagram account, and allowing students to share ideas and opportunities is her focus when looking toward the future of the club. “I want to keep the same energy and continue expanding on what we’ve already built,” explained Mrs. Worrell. “I want to make sure were using students’ ideas as a foundation for what we do… The award is something we’re proud of, but it also motivates us to keep improving and pushing ourselves to do better” (Worell). The club aims to continue its impactful efforts in the years to come.
