Valentines Day originated from a blend of ancient Roman fertility rituals and Christian efforts to honor St. Valentine who was a martyr. The story behind St. Valentine was that he was a priest in the 3rd century of Rome, who martyred after defying the emperor by marrying couples in secret. He is claimed to have written a letter to the jailer’s daughter signed, “From your Valentine”. Officially established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 A.D of February 14th. Lupercalia was a mid-February fertility festival held in ancient Rome, with some traditions involving matchmaking, and it is claimed to be the very first origins of Valentines Day.
Now that we know the origins of Valentines we are going to figure out the top 5 Valentines date plans! Matthew Luviano (12) said, “I have a girlfriend, so I am going to ask her to be my Valentine, and I’m going to by her flowers and buy her Starbucks, give her a card and It’s going to be cute and I’m going to draw on it. I’ll probably also take her out to dinner.”
Mr. Hunt (Marketing Teacher) said, “I think my favorite Valentines Day was when we were first married. We went to a nice restaurant to eat in Salt Lake City; we lived in Utah at the time, it over looked temple square which is one of the most beautiful areas in Salt Lake, we ate by the windows it started snowing so we saw the now coming down and we had a elegant dinner and we had a great view and it was an awesome night. This year my wife and I are going for dinner and we’ll have a good time.” So, with all these students’ opinions we can finally create some rankings!
