On Valentine’s Day, an annual holiday on February 14th, students, friends, and families across the globe celebrate this special day. This holiday is mainly centered around love, appreciation, and strengthening bonds between relationships and friendships. While most people say the day is just about commercial gifts, like chocolate and flowers, many other people would think otherwise and claim that Valentine’s Day means more than just gifts.
Valentine’s Day is named after Saint Valentine, a priest who allegedly helped couples secretly elope during the rise of the Roman Empire. As time passed, this day has evolved into a worldwide holiday, bringing couples together to express love. Even today it is still a big holiday that is present in schools, work, homes, and communities.
Claire Mitchell, a student at Hidden Valley, shared how she views Valentine’s Day. “Valentine’s Day is not just about dating someone. I think it is about showing your friends you care and do appreciate them.” She explained that this holiday is not just for couples and having a partner. It is also about showing your friends love too.
Another student, Brynn Raymond, was expressing the pressure some teens may feel. “I think there can be pressure on teens to have a Valentine, but Valentine’s Day is a day you should not feel bad if you are single.” She added that one of her favorite things is to spends time with family rather than focusing on a glamorous, expensive gift.
No matter how the day is celebrated, it is still an important topic of conversation among students and adults. Whether you are single or have a partner, many still agree that spending time with the people you care about is the best way to go about the day.
