A new event similar to the Spring Volleyball Tournament has been the talk of the halls at Hidden Valley High School. The Winter Madness Basketball Tournament has officially opened registration, inviting students to sign up either to compete on the court or to attend and watch. With a focus on school spirit and fundraising for the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, the event is designed to provide friendly competition for the student body.
Organizers have structured Winter Madness as a high-intensity, bracket-style tournament. Four teams will compete, with each receiving equal opportunities to showcase their skills on the court.
The tournament will begin with two semifinal games to determine the top contenders. The winners will advance to the championship game, where they will face off for the Winter Madness title. The two teams that lose in the semifinals will compete in a consolation game to determine third place, ensuring ample court time for all participants.
The tournament’s social media page has generated excitement through team reveals, roster announcements and other interactive content. Teams include the Walkemdown Unc’s, the 67ers, the Dark Force and the Dream Chasers, representing a diverse group of players from all grade levels.
Event host Jonathan Hamilton said the goal of Winter Madness extends beyond fundraising.
“We are looking to create something that brings the school together, whether you are playing, coaching or just cheering from the stands,” Hamilton said. “It is all about Titan pride.”
Dream Chasers head coach Chase Schemm expressed confidence in his team’s chances.
“Basketball has been my main sport for years,” Schemm said. “My team is filled with other athletes and members of the basketball team, so we shouldn’t even have to break a sweat.”
Event organizers emphasized that Winter Madness is one of the largest student-planned events of the year and marks the beginning of more to come. They encourage all students to attend and show their support.
