The Roanoke County School Board opened Hidden Valley High School in 2002 at 5000 Titan Trail, Roanoke, Virginia. This school opened in 2002 to decrease the overcrowding at Cave Spring High School. The construction started in 2002, and the cost was estimated to be around $22.2 million.
Mr. Whitlow has been the principal here at Hidden Valley High School serving from the 2021-2022 school year to the present. Previously, he was the assistant principal from the 2003-2004 school year to the 2016-2017 school year.
There have been several recent changes here at Hidden Valley, such as the Club Fair and the county-wide initiative Opportunity Ready Graduate Program. However, one of the most prominent changes at Hidden Valley High School was the of 12th grade mentorship program with 12th graders mentoring the 9th graders through navigating high school, as well as the 8th grade tours led by the members of Titan 12.
When asked about her favorite addition to this school, Ms. Oakes, a longtime HVHS teacher starting in 2005, stated, “I just love the built-in school spirit weeks throughout the year.”
A few traditions specific to Hidden Valley High School are Titan Kickoff Scrimmage at the beginning of the football season and the Spirit Cup Competition by grade level. Additionally, some annual conventions for our 12th graders include Senior Day and Mock Graduation held in the spring of every school year.
Overall, Hidden Valley High School has developed significantly over the past few decades, with various additions to the school since its opening in 2002.
