The annual Hidden Valley Homecoming Spirit Cup contest was last week, and on October 17th during the Homecoming Pep Rally, it was announced that the class of 2026 brought home the win with 267 votes. The senior class had the most students participate in all the spirit days, and they brought home the first spirit cup of their high school careers. Senior year brings out the most excitement in students and the class of 2026 is no exception.
There were many spirit days at school during Homecoming week including dressing up as a senior citizen and wearing bright neon colors. Claire Mitchell (12) said, “My favorite spirit day was senior citizen day because I have been waiting all of high school to dress like a grandma.” Spirit week is exciting for all students, but seniors go all out for their last homecoming dress-up week. One of the most exciting dress-up days is extreme blue and gold because it falls on Friday, which means there’s the pep rally and football game!
Students at Hidden Valley wait all week for the pep rally on Friday. This year’s pep rally included various games for students to participate in, various performances by teachers, and of course the crowning of the spirit cup winner. The energy was high all pep rally specifically for the senior class after they won the mattress sliding competition. The seniors were crowned the Spirit Cup winner at the end of the pep rally and then from there began the celebrations and photo-ops.
Homecoming week included many other festivities including dress-up days, powder puff, the football game, the parade, and so much more. Ashley Stevens (12) says, “I think that our determination to win this year’s spirit cup came from the fact the juniors won the powder puff game, and we couldn’t let them win the spirit cup too.” The junior class won over the seniors for the first time in almost five years, so this was a big deal. Seniors believed that their victory was unfair, so this only furthered their fuel to win the spirit cup.
The spirit cup is a highly prized trophy here at Hidden Valley, and the seniors were ecstatic to finally take home the win. Homecoming week is full of fun activities and school spirit that helps bring the entire school together. Everyone had an amazing week, but the seniors sure ended homecoming festivities with a bang!
