The Hidden Valley Powderpuff junior and senior football teams, with the guidance from Ms. Newbern, the Hidden Valley psychology teacher and Powderpuff sponsor, are preparing for the Powderpuff Football Game on Monday, October 13th at 7:00pm.
The Powderpuff football teams are working hard while training for the upcoming games. Many teaches too have been working hard to get ready for Powderpuff, such as band director Mr. Galyen working with the band and football coaches Luckett and Toliver assisting in training the teams.
“I am the sponsoring coordinator along with the Mighty Titan Marching Band coordinator, band booster president (Mr. Easter), and chaperone coordinator (Ms. Cornett). She (Ms. Cornett) handles the concessions and the band, making sure it’s going to be a wonderful event. I work with the school stuff making sure the teams are prepared, and that the dates are set and going through the administration,” says Ms. Newbern.
When it comes to the coaches and players’ preparations for the Powderpuff Football Game, the coaches have been putting the players through intense yet beneficial practices. About those practices, Rimonda Faltas (11) said, “(The practices have been) Very good, very intense, and I think we have a good team. We break into drills, offense, divide into different groups and then play at the end.” With this type of dedication, it is apparent that the games will be competitive. The preparations show that the game will be interesting and fun.
Although the practices have been hard and rewarding, how has the dynamic evolved between the experienced coaches and the new Powderpuff players? Ms. Newbern said, “It’s different coaching females, so most of the guys who have coached the ladies have had to learn patience. Not everybody has played football, so they have to use different terms. For example, when a coach was using the term, ‘rushing rushing rushing,’ a player said, ‘What do you want me to do?’ He said, ‘run that way.’ How they interacted and overcome bodes well for the (upcoming) games.”
The Powderpuff Football Teams are doing so well to prepare for the upcoming game, while Ms. Newbern along with Mr. Galyen are figuring out all of the details needed for this event to be successful. If you want to watch an exciting game, come to the Powderpuff football game on Monday, October 13th at 7:00pm!
