Japhon English has been one of the most decorated student-athletes to walk the halls of Titan Trail. From breaking records on the track to lighting up the football field every Friday night, English has truly done it all during his time as a Titan.
A standout in both athletics and character, English’s contributions extend far beyond the scoreboard. While his athletic accomplishments are impressive, his impact on the school community is just as noteworthy. Known for his infectious positivity and down-to-earth attitude, English has become a role model for younger students and a source of joy for teachers and peers alike.
Over the years, English has created many unforgettable memories, but one stands out above the rest. “My favorite memory was beating Byrd sophomore year in football,” he said with a smile. That game, remembered for its intensity and significance, marked a turning point in his athletic career and remains a highlight for the entire school.
When asked about the source of his upbeat personality, English credited the 1995 cult classic comedy Friday as a major influence. “Friday is my favorite movie because it teaches you how to have fun in life,” he said. “That’s what I try to do—enjoy every moment and spread good energy.”
English’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. He has earned accolades on the track, drawing attention from collegiate programs, and now he’s preparing to take his talents to the next level. This fall, he will run at Ferrum College, a Division II school, as a student-athlete—an exciting opportunity that marks the next chapter in his already impressive journey.
“I am very passionate about life after high school,” English said. “It’s very exciting to be running track at the Division II level. I’m ready for the challenge and grateful for the support I’ve had along the way.”
As he prepares to become a Panther, English leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by students, staff and coaches alike. His dedication, leadership and lighthearted spirit have set a high standard for future Titans to follow.
Though his time at the school is coming to an end, the mark he has left is undeniable. From the track to the classroom, Japhon English has embodied what it means to be a Titan—and now, the community watches with pride and excitement as he embarks on this new chapter.
