As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, excitement is building around the world. With the tournament held only once every four years, and last hosted in the United States in 1994, fans are eager for its return to American soil.
However, one major concern is overshadowing the excitement: ticket prices. Current prices range from several hundred to several thousand dollars per game, even for group-stage matches, depending on seating and location. These costs do not include additional expenses such as travel, housing, or food. For many families around the world, attending even a single match has become financially unrealistic. As a result, this massive international event is increasingly becoming accessible only to those who can afford the high price tag.
Students at Hidden Valley are facing the same issue. “The ticket prices are so expensive, I don’t even know if I am going to be able to go to even one game,” said senior David Faltas when asked about his plans to attend the World Cup.
While excitement for the tournament remains high, many passionate soccer fans will be unable to experience the World Cup in person due to the extreme cost of tickets. Fans are left choosing between their love for the sport and their country, or the financial reality of attending one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
