At the Summer 2024 Paralympic games in Paris, history was made when couple Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall both got a gold medal in their track and field events. Previous to the Paralympics, the Olympics were hosted in the same arena in Paris, France. During the Olympics Tara won gold in the women’s long jump with a tremendous jump that measured over 23 feet. Not only was Tara’s jump history, it was also a comeback from placing 6th at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Later in the year Hunter took place competing in the Paralympics. While Hunter competed in different events, he took home gold in the 400-meter dash. Hunter suffers from fibular hemimelia, causing him to lose both of his legs from the knee down. When asked about this power couple, Jack Barbour (12) said, “It is amazing what this couple has done. Hunter with his double amputation and Tara with her come back from the Tokyo Olympics.”
After Hunter won his gold medal the couple broke the internet. The couple was already getting a lot of fame due to Tara running to Hunter first thing after her won, but even more now that he had done the same. Fiona Ramey (10) said, “I watched some of the Olympics, but this part really stood out to me, and I saw it all over social media.” As this loving couple got all their fame from the fans, there were comments going around about them in positive and negative light. Jack (12) mentioned, “I really think that this should become a book or even a movie since it was so popular.”
