Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s leadership of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, from December 1955 until April 4, 1968, inspired from his Christian faith and the peaceful teaching. Dr. King leads a nonviolent movement in the late 50s and 60s to achieve equality for Black Americans in the United States. While others were advocating freedom by any means necessary with violence, Dr King, used the power of nonviolent words such as protests, a civil act to achieve peace seemingly.
March on Washington had Over 200,000–300,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his iconic ‘’I Have a Dream’’ speech. It was held in Washington, D.C on August 28, 1963. The purpose of the march was to advocate for the civil rights of Black American. The speech came from the final speaker, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial as he delivered his historic speech which he called for an end to illegalize racism and racial segregation.
Hidden Valley High School math teacher and football couch, Mr. Toliver gives his insight on MLKs work. In the interview Toliver says that the I Have a Dream speech is one of MLKs work that really speaks to him. Toliver says that the March on Washington really speaks to him because of the unity it brings to people and how MLK inspired him to unify everyone in schools and sports. Toliver also mentioned that MLK is someone in history who he really appreciates because of the impact on all African Americans and education.
