Rob Reiner, known for his acting, producing, and directing, was killed in his home along with his wife on December 14th. Rob Reiner dedicated his life to the film industry creating well known movies such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Stand by Me, and many more renowned movies.
Rob and his wife Michele Singer were found stabbed in their home, both found with multiple stab wounds. The perpetrator has been revealed to be their son Nick Reiner. However, no motive has been released yet; he was taken into custody the day of, was held without bail, and had his arraignment on December 17th. At Nicks arraignment his attorney, who has since withdrawn from the case due to “circumstances beyond control” hinted at a potential insanity defense.
Nick reportedly has been in and out of rehab numerous times in the past few years and has had a problem with hard drugs since he was fifteen. He was also placed in a court ordered mental health conservation ship in 2020, where he was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Nick and Rob were also seen having an intense argument at a party the night before the murders took place.
Michele Singer Reiner was a photographer, film producer, and activist. She and Rob got married in May 1989. According to Rob she heavily influenced his work of producing and directing quoting, “she helped raise me.” Rob and Michele had three children, Nick, Jake, and Romy, with Nick being the middle child.
Rob Reiner created fantastic movies which inspired people. Fiona Ramey (11) says that her favorite movie directed by Rob Reiner was The Princess Bride and that “It was an amazing movie that combine romance and humor.” Also, when asked about the impact of she expresses his “ big impact on my life, he has created many amazing things, and it makes sense why he is so popular.”
Rob and Michele lived big lives, and they should not have been taken away like that; they both had big impacts on many communities, and everyone should be able to recognize that.
