In the early morning on January 3rd, 2026, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was kidnapped from his private residence in Caracas, Venezuela. Maduro and his wife face charges for narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and weapons charges. The tensions between the United States and Venezuela have been gradually rising with words exchanged by both leaders.
“Come get me. I will wait for him here in Miraflores. Don’t be late, coward,” said Maduro in a speech in August, directly taunting Trump. US Special forces were inserted into the compound, provided with cover from the US navy, where FBI took Maduro and his wife into custody, and brought them back to the US. More than 150 U.S. military aircraft, including bombers, fighters, surveillance planes, and helicopters, were involved in the operation to apprehend Maduro.
Maduro was extradited to the Metropolitan Detainment Center, where he is currently being detained in in Brooklyn, NY. Many other well-known people are being held in the MDC, including the likes of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Luigi Mangione, and Ghislaine Maxwell. Maduro is currently maintaining a stance of innocence, and his next court date is scheduled for March 17th.
Our current Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, stated in a interview shortly after the fact that this action was a part of reestablishing the Monroe Doctrine and “peace through strength” in the region. He drew similarities to Iran as he stated, “Just like Iran had their chance until they didn’t and until he didn’t.” All of this goes to show what President Trump and the Department of War are willing to do to reestablish the United States as a major power in the western hemisphere.
