The Housemaid is a suspenseful thriller that came out December 19th, 2025, based off the bestseller book written by Frieda McFadden that has kept viewers on edge through a dangerous relationship between Millie and her employer, Andrew. The film builds tension between the couple as it takes several twists and turns. Haylie Nichols a former Hidden Valley student watched the movie and shared her opinion, “it was good, except by knowing the ending from reading the book already, it took away the surprise, so it wasn’t as good as it would be for those who didn’t know the twist.”
Many viewers enjoyed the movie, sharing several positive scores online and influencing others to watch it as well. Although the movie was exciting by giving faces to the characters, some viewers enjoyed the book even more. Claire Kern read the novel and watched the film stating that “I enjoyed the book more because going into it, I had no clue what to expect. I also liked the aspect of knowing more details about the story by reading the book. I also liked getting the full, detailed perspectives from both characters.” (Kern 11) This response shows that the books’ deeper detail and surprise factor made it more exciting for some readers.
Overall, The Housemaid is a gripping film with strong performances and tense moments. But for readers who already know the ending, the movies twists lose some of its power, making the book feel more thrilling in comparison.
