Wicked: for Good is the sequel to Wicked: part 1, a fantasy musical set-in Oz/ Emerald City and based on The Wizard of Oz the 1939 film. Wicked: for Good came out November 21, 2025 and was released in thousands of theaters worldwide.
The main characters Glinda the Good Witch, played by Ariana Grande and Elphaba (The Wicked Witch), played by Cynthia Ervio, go through power corruption, good vs. evil, and overcome the complexities of their friendship.
In the first movie our main characters begin their relationship at Shiz, a prestigious school in Oz, where they develop a deep hatred or loathing for one another. As time ticks, the flower of their relationship blossoms into a thriving friendship. They set off to the Emerald City to meet the “Wizard,” Elphaba is tricked into using her magical abilities for evil, and she is forced to leave. Discriminatory propaganda of Elphaba fills the streets while Glinda stays behind.
In the newest movie, Elphaba becomes hated, feared, and exiled. People do not understand that she is just standing up to the Wizard who is lying about his powers. Glinda becomes loved by all, and their friendship fractures. Elphaba and the “Wizard” get into a dispute about the safety and mistreatment of the talking animals. The film concludes with Elphaba releasing the animals, faking her death, and running away with her love interest, A.K.A Fiyero. Glinda threatens to expose the “Wizard” as a fraud who does not have any real power, and Glinda shockingly uncovers his parental place as Elphaba’s Papa. He gets scared and flees while Glinda takes over as the Witch of Oz.
Overall, this movie has been a wicked good film to watch, representing the evolution of friendship, overcoming diversity, enchanting songs, with that movie magic feeling that makes it not so fantasy. This sequel takes place with The Wizard of Oz,” including Dorothy, the main character of that movie, and the memorial scenes like the Ruby Slippers and Tornado. We recommend Wicked: for Good to any musical lovers who want to conclude the story of these two witches. It is still playing in theaters and will be out to stream early 2026.
