Grammy-winning singer and artist, Daniel Caesar has been hosting free pop-up concerts across the U.S. to promote his new album, Son of Spergy. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B Albums chart. It includes collaborations with artists like Sampha, Bon Iver, and Yebba, and explores deep themes of reconciliation and faith.
So far, Caesar has visited seven cities across Canada and the U.S., including Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Bozeman, Los Angeles, Houston, and Atlanta. The tour has been a “surprise pop-up” series, with locations announced only hours before each performance on his social media pages like Instagram and TikTok. Despite the last-minute notices, thousands of fans have shown up to each event. However, because these concerts are not officially coordinated with city officials, they have occasionally caused issues. In Houston, police shut down a show that drew about 1,500 fans after learning Caesar did not have a permit—similar problems have occurred in other cities as well. (Angel Arrizon, 11) “Daniel Caesar’s songs help me get through late night assignments, I would love to go to one of the concerts.”
During the shows, Caesar performs both his biggest hits—like “Best Part,” “Japanese Denim,” and “Get You”—and fan favorites such as “Always,” “Superpowers,” and “Provider.” Fans often sing along passionately, and he has even treated them to unreleased tracks from his upcoming album, including “Who Knows,” “Moon,” and “Baby Blue.” (Angel Arrizon, 11) “Daniel Ceaser’s new album is one of my new favorites “The pop-up concerts have been met with overwhelming excitement online, especially on TikTok, where videos of the events have gone viral. Each performance feels spontaneous and magical, though a bit chaotic, as crowds pack into public spaces to catch a glimpse of Caesar—some even climbing trees just to see him perform.
