On September 22,2025, Tyler Childers brought his “On the Road” tour to the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA. People from all over, most specifically in the south, gathered for his concert, being a part of new fresh introduction to the creativity of Childers’ new album, Snipe Hunter.
As the opening band was closing with their final song, and the crowd was starting to take their seats, excitement intensified all around. Tyler Childers stepped on stage, and the energy stayed high as he moved through a mix of new tracks and longtime favorites. Susie Metz (11) was at the concert with her family who had been looking forward to this concert for ages. “The energy inside John Paul Arena was incredible. You could feel the excitement from the moment you walked in. Everyone was singing, cheering, living in the moment.” Metz said as she reminisced on the feel.
The sound of Snipe Hunter, blending songs of folk, country, and experimental rock. Tracks like Bitin’ List showed up as a brash, crowd-rousing anthem, energizing the crowd even more with lyrics about enemies. At the same time, songs like Nose on the Grindstone leaned more on the Appalachian and raw side. Sofia Jordan (12) heard many great songs at the concert. “A song that was memorable for me was Follow you to Virgie because that’s the first song I ever heard by him, and my mom would always play it”. Visuals of the concert leaned into its Appalachian storytelling and country twang sense, with the flashing colors of reds and oranges, and images of nostalgic country. The visual effects were amplifying, weaving into the music, making the whole concert a sensory event.
From start to finish, Childers dedicated his concert to be perfect for his fans, reminding everyone why he is one of country music’s most authentic voices. Between the fiery visuals, and diverse tone of music, the night was an experience for many to remember.
