The 2025 VMA Awards lit up Elmont, New York, celebrating the most talented music artists on September 7th in the UBS Arena. The show opened with a pop star’s performance presenting shocking choreography, which got the crowd hyped up. There were many amazing performances throughout the night from rising stars to music legends.
One of most insane performances was Tate McRae. The Canadian pop star brought emotion and energy to the stage with her amazing voice and choreography leaving everyone in awe. McRae wore an embellished white bandeau top and matching boy shorts surrounded by nearly naked male dancers. The singer’s dance moves were the most astounding part of the performance. After her shocking performance, the singer arrived at the red carpet in a sheer white gown by Ludovic de Saint Sernin.
Mila McDonough(10) said McRae’s performance left her shocked as dancer. “The choreography made the performance more interesting with the set and back up dancers,” McDonough said. Entertained by the sand and the unique vibe compared to the other performances, McDonough states, “Tate’s performance was different and nobody else could’ve come up with that. The performance definitely improved her career and shows how talented she is as a singer and a dancer.”
After years of avoiding the VMAs, Ariana Grande made a memorable appearance winning video of the year. After accepting her award, Grande made a heartfelt speech about her album Eternal Sunshine and how it’s about the hard work that comes with healing all different kinds of trauma and having safety within our own lives.
Sabrina Carpenter’s performance of Tears was another fan favorite. Carpenter’s performance drew lots of attention as a result of similarities to Britney Spears’ 2001 performance. The performance came to a close with Carpenter surrounded by male dancers and drag queens holding signs saying “Dolls Dolls Dolls” and “Protect Trans Rights.” Carpenters’ newest album, Mans Best Friend, has broken the record of most streamed album on Spotify in one day. At the VMAs she received the “Moon Person” Trophies including Best Pop Artist and Best Album with Short n Sweet.
Cabyll Lindstrom(10) said she was surprised when Sabrina came out of the sewer. “I think the most shocking part of her performance was when it started raining making the choreography stand out more.” Carpenters’ performance set the tone of the VMAs for Lindstrom causing more excitement for the next performances. “The performance hyped everyone up while also sending out a message about trans rights,” Lindstrom added.
The VMAs shocked tons of people with performances and awards alike. It was a perfect mix of creativity, surprises, and style. The award show highlighted new music artists and reminded people of why these music artists are still making music. The ceremony included heart-felt speeches and a lot of creativity, overall making way for a memorable night for fans and artists.
