As graduation approaches, Alayna is reflecting on the moments and people who have shaped her high school experience. From her first day in Mr. Broughman’s math class, where fate seated her next to the person who would become her boyfriend, to years spent growing under the guidance of Mr. Miller, her journey has been one of connection, learning and self-discovery.
“My closest friends, Estrella, Rozhia, Jenna and Hannah, have been my rock through all my highs and lows,” Alayna said. “I couldn’t be more grateful for their unwavering support.” That sense of belonging extended beyond friendships and into her passion for choir, a constant in her life that never lost its magic.
Looking back, if she could offer advice to her freshman self, it would be: “Be who you are and don’t let others take your shine.” It’s a simple yet powerful reminder of self-worth and confidence, values she plans to carry into the next phase of life.
As she looks to the future, Alayna is most excited for graduation, frequent beach trips, continued involvement in choir and exploring a new field: ultrasound.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without my friends’ support, so I plan to stay connected with them,” she said, emphasizing the importance of lasting bonds.
Beyond academics, Alayna is driven by a desire to make kindness a daily practice. Whether it’s helping a friend or a stranger, she wants to be someone who lends a hand whenever it’s needed.
Her biggest passion right now is preparing for college and taking the first steps toward a career. She also hopes to spend time volunteering at animal shelters, helping pets find their forever homes.
When it comes to inspiration, singer Billie Eilish stands out, not just for her music, but for her journey of overcoming personal struggles and staying true to herself.
For a reminder of perseverance, Alayna turns to the film A League of Their Own, which resonates deeply with her past experience playing softball. And if she could have dinner with anyone, she’d choose Billie Eilish, an opportunity to talk about life, struggles and the road to success.
