On August 28th, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce officially hard launched their engagement that happened in a rose covered garden at Kelce’s home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The news was quickly blown around social media, sparking excitement from all the fans of the pop star and the NFL player.
Swift and Kelce began their love story in July of 2023. Kelce attended the Kansas City stop of the Eras Tour. He attempted to give her a friendship bracelet that had his phone number on it. He was not successful in his first attempt though. Later, on Kelce’s podcast he shared that story which then sparked Taylor’s attention. That missed opportunity from Kelce eventually led to the start of their love story.
Our students had plenty to say about the big news. Brynn Testerman (9) said she believes that their engagement could have a positive impact on both Swift and Kelce’s careers. “I think it could help both of their careers grow. I believe over time we will see it positively effecting both Travis’ work in games and Taylor’s music.” The freshman explained. Testerman also expressed her excitement “I was so shocked and was so excited for them and this next step in their relationship!” She added that the relationship could even affect sports viewership. “I think it could boost the NFL’s viewership and popularity. Taylor fans will now want to see Travis play, so I think it will be a win win.
Another student, Mila Mcdonough (10), shared her reaction to the announcement “I was in lunch when they first announced their engagement, and I found out through my friends. I was so shocked and overall, really happy for them.” the sophomore commented. Mcdonough believes their relationship has been mutually beneficial. “I think they’ve influenced each other in a positive way because ever since they got together, we have seen more of them being themselves instead of the person they used to always show the internet.” She also noted that their engagement may improve how people see them publicly. “I think the engagement helped to stop the assumptions about their relationship being just a PR stunt. I also think it has changed the way Kelce fans see Taylor and vice versa.” The swiftie mentioned.
For fans all around the globe, Swift’s and Kelce’s engagement represented not only their own personal milestone but also a cultural moment for the world. One of the globes biggest stars and one of the NFL’s highly recognized athletes are certain to keep this newfound spotlight on them as they begin this new chapter in their lives. As Taylor once sung, “He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said, Marry me, Juliet.” Taylor is living out her own Juliet dream. Now she finally comes to the beginning of the end of her own Love Story.
