Homecoming Spirit Week at Hidden Valley High School is taking place October 14th through 17th, with different themes planned for each day. This spirit week’s themes consist of Decades Day, Color Wars, Rock vs. Country, and Extreme Blue and Gold. The purpose of Spirit Week is to bring students and staff together, while building excitement for the upcoming Homecoming celebration.
Ms. Fisher, the SCA sponsor, explained, “I let the SCA decide the themes for spirit week, and most members decide their themes using Google and Pinterest, but a lot of the same themes come around every year”. After the SCA votes on the final themes, Ms. Fisher submits them to Mr. Whitlow (HVHS Principal) for approval.
There will be no school on Monday due to a teacher workday, but the themes begin Tuesday with Decades Day. Each grade will represent a different decade: Freshmen dress as the 70s, Sophomores are the 80s, Juniors, as the 90s, Seniors as senior citizens, and Faculty dressing from the decade they were born in.
On Wednesday, Color Wars will continue the fun with each grade wearing a different color. Freshmen in purple, sophomores in green, juniors in red, seniors in pink, and faculty in tie-dye or multicolor. Claire Nieminen (student) stated, “I am most excited for the Color Wars Day”.
Thursday’s theme is Rock vs. Country, giving students a chance to show their style by choosing a side and dressing to match.
The themes will wrap up on Friday with Extreme Blue and Gold Day, encouraging everyone to show their school pride by wearing Hidden Valley’s colors as boldly as possible.
Ms. Fisher predicts the freshmen (Class of 2029) will have the most school spirit this year. In the past, the upperclassmen have dominated spirit week; however, this year there may be a change with the freshmen winning the Spirit Cup.
With fun themes all week long and the pep rally and Homecoming game on Friday, students are building excitement as they get ready for the Homecoming dance.
