The FIFA World Cup kicks off the first game. With Qatar and Ecuador facing each other, in Qatar on November 20,2022.

The World Cup is a soccer tournament that is held once every four years with a different host country every tournament. With this year’s host country being Qatar, a small country located in the middle east.

The first matches that are played are the group stage matches which has four teams in different groups and the top two teams of each group advance to the round of 16. After the round of 16 the teams then play in the Quarter finals which then play in the semifinals with the winners of that match advance to the final where two teams play for the trophy.

The World Cup is the most viewed sporting with a projected viewing to be around 5 billion viewers this World Cup. When asked on why this is the most viewed sporting event in the world sophomore Nicole Scarlatescu stated  that “it’s most likely because of all the countries that are involved in this event.” The World Cup has been claimed to bring people together when asked if this is true Nicole said that “I feel like it does because the world comes together to support their country, but it can also create some enemies because of the countries playing against each other.”
