Last week at Roanoke’s Hidden Valley High School, students participated in Red Ribbon Week to take a stand against drug use.
Red ribbon week is celebrated all across the United States October 23rd to October 31st, and Hidden Valley High School was one of the many schools that created themed days to inspire students to show their stand against drugs in a creative way.
On Monday, students dressed in red to show their support for Red Ribbon Week and their commitment to living a drug-free life. On Tuesday, they dressed Country vs. Rock to give drugs the boot. On Wednesday, students did Rhyme without Reason to show there is no reason to do drugs. On Thursday, students dressed up as teachers and teachers dressed up as students to team up against drugs. And on Friday, they dressed up all pink like Barbie and Ken to show you’re Ken-ough without drugs.
Sophie Conforti-Johnson (11) said, “I dressed up for all the days, my favorite was probably Barbie and Ken Day because everyone was wearing pink.”
The school incorporates these dress up days to make the stand against drugs seen and also more fun for all teachers and students.
Calli Anderson (11) said, “Teachers vs. Students was my favorite day because it was so funny to see all the teachers dressed how they think students dress.”
Over the past years, drug use has greatly increased within the schools, which makes Red Ribbon Week so much more important.
Hidden Valley High School’s Red Ribbon Week celebration was a success, and students were excited to show their support for a drug-free lifestyle.
