Hidden Valley High School’s Beta Club is a nationally acclaimed program, that recognizes juniors and seniors who have demonstrated the organization’s four key values: academic excellence leadership, character, and service.
Beta hosts annual national conventions, giving members an opportunity to utilize their knowledge through competitions in various academic fields, including S.T.E.M, performing arts, and testing.
The head of the club, Mrs. Dermont (Special Education Teacher), says that Beta Club is an honor society that invites students with a 3.8 or above cumulative GPA to join. The club is very community oriented. Members are required to participate in 40 hours of volunteer work, and they also do summer volunteering and international trips.
Mrs. Dermont also shared that although Beta Club doesn’t have any events planned at the moment, volunteer opportunities are available throughout the school year and are posted on the club’s Canvas page. Additionally, there is a network where seniors officers look for volunteer opportunities for other members.
Like all Beta Club members, Kate Funderburke, a senior at Hidden Valley, joined the club through an invite. Funderburke described Beta Club as an organization that helps push her to participate in the community through volunteering. The community involvement has increased Funderburke’s motivation in well-rounded aspects of her life.
Beta Club provides students with the opportunity to showcase both their academic achievements and their commitment to community service. Membership allows students to connect with peers who share similar goals and values, while also strengthening their academic résumé. This year, even more students will take advantage of the chance to join Beta Club and make their high school experience even more rewarding.
