Selena Gomez and Hailey Baldwin started drama in February of 2023 online after years of speculation of a feud revolving around their relationship to Justin Bieber. Fans of Hailey and Selena have been fighting since Justin Bieber proposed to Baldwin in 2018, just 6 months after Gomez and Biebers final breakup. However, Hailey has been accused of cyberbullying Selena Gomez through posts shading her looks. 

Selena Gomez, who dated Justin Bieber on and off from 2010 to 2018, posted a TikTok joking about her over-laminated eyebrows. A few hours after this TikTok were posted, Hailey Bieber posted a screenshot of a facetime between her and her friend Kylie Jenner. This photo consisted of the two of them showing a close of their eyebrows, which many of Selena Gomez’s fans considered to be a shade towards Selena’s video. 

Since this photo was posted, the drama between the two women began to become more public as Gomez responded to comments regarding the breakup between her and Bieber. As well as responding to a video that a fan reposted of Hailey Bieber pretending to gag when singer, and best friend of Gomez, Taylor Swift was mentioned. In this comment she responded to the video of Hailey with the statement, “one of the best in the game.” 

Soon after this, Gomez posted to social media stating she was “too old for this” and would be taking a break from social media. This break only caused more speculation of the feud between Baldwin and Gomez. However, Gomez made a brief comeback to social media by bringing attention to the situation. In her Instagram story she commented on the drama by saying that Baldwin had been receiving death threats and that she truly wants all the drama to stop. Later, Baldwin would respond to Gomez in an Instagram story urging people to be more aware of what they post on social media. 

Anna Wingate, a student from Hidden Valley says, “I think that the drama is definitely a reach, but I also think that Hailey didn’t have to make unnecessary Instagram stories shading Selena because this drama wouldn’t have started up again if she hadn’t said anything.” 

Since this, Gomez and Baldwin have followed each other back on Instagram and Baldwin reportedly liked a throwback picture of Gomez that she had posted on her Instagram account.
