Late in the evening of April 5, 2024, Ecuadorian police entered the Mexican embassy in Ecuador’s capital to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas. This caused outrage throughout the Mexican government as the police forcefully entered the embassy and had no reason or permission to enter and extract him. Since then, Mexico has cut all ties with Ecuador and filed an application instituting proceedings against Ecuador before the International Court of Justice calling the actions a violation of international law.
When asked as to what the opinions about the arrest are, Alex Sanchez (12) are stated, “It was an unlawful thing to do because based on the video that was released it is shown that they just broke in and entered and threw diplomatic officers to the ground while looking for Jorge Glas. Because it’s an embassy anyone with common sense knows that you can’t just go in and do that as if you’re raiding a house.”
The relationship is now very rocky between Ecuador and Mexico and when asked as to what’s going to happen now, Alex responded, “I think Mexico is just going to cut ties with them there were rumors going around that Mexico would wage war with them but what’s the point like yes the Mexican government can take it as an act of war but I do highly doubt that they’ll do that.”
And finally, when asked if it was the right thing to do Alex responded, “I don’t think it was. Even though he is a criminal because he was relieved of his position because of bribery and corruption I still don’t think its right to raid an embassy and extract him because you’re supposed to respect that part of land.”
