In October 2021, director Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that had a live round in it.  The bullet struck set member Halyna Hutchins in Santa Fe.

Baldwin, “discharged” the gun which struck and killed Halyna Hutchins. This has left many questions unanswered such as why was there a live round inside a prop gun? How was the prop gun able to fire a live round and fatally kill someone? And the most important question, who is responsible for this?

On October 27, 2022, the Santa Fe police department had concluded its investigation and delivered the report to the New Mexico district attorney to determine criminal charges. On January 19, 2023, they announced that both Alec Baldwin and the armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are charged with involuntary manslaughter. Alec Baldwin had filled a negligence lawsuit against several of the crew members involved on November, 11, 2022 claiming that they had caused the incident. The suit claims that Baldwin is trying to clear his name because he had lost jobs and career opportunities in the result of the incident.

Since the incident, questions began to accumulate, such as: Will Baldwin receive jail time? George Wright, a senior, stated that “He’s a big celebrity and even if he is found guilty, he wont be in there for that long”.  Another important question that remains is if he can sue the armorer directly and the person who handed him the gun. George stated, “Of course,  he can because it’s not his fault. He’s supposed to trust them to do their job correctly and they didn’t which sadly resulted in the loss of a life and caused him to be charged with involuntary manslaughter.”
