The citizens of Mexico celebrated their independence on the 16^th of September 2022. The citizens of Mexico gathered around to celebrate Mexico’s independence from Spain. The 16^th of September is an important day for Mexicans around the world as it’s the day of their independence. However, there are people who aren’t Mexicans believe that Cinco de mayo is more important.

The 16^th of September marks the day that Mexico claimed its independence from Spain. In the year 1821, Agustin de Iturbide a Spanish supporting soldier switched sides and became a leader in independence movement. He sent troops into Mexico City and effectively seized control of the city.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory against the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in the year 1862.

The reason Cinco de Mayo is more commonly known throughout the United States is because businesses make a bigger deal out of it. The main businesses that make a big deal are mainly beverages companies which main products are Mexican imported beer and they put those items on sale.

Restaurants are also why Cinco de Mayo is a big deal. Alan Ortiz when asked on why do restaurants make a big deal, he said that “restaurants care more about Cinco de Mayo because they know that the people know more about it than on the actual Independence Day. It also helps them get more customers and allows the restaurant to get more profit.” He also claims that “on Cinco de Mayo people don’t know much but they only know that it’s an important day in Mexican history and that they are just trying to show respect.
