Hidden Valley Highschool DECA members will attend the District Leadership Conference (DLC) on November 12, 2024, at Roanoke College.
DLC is a formal event where students will showcase their talents through different roleplays and scenarios based in entrepreneurship and marketing. Zara Bhowansingh (9) says, “At DLC we do various roleplays. We are given a scenario, then we have to come up with marketing strategies using performance indicators.” DLC consists of many competitive events, such as, Principles of Business Administration, Personal Financial, Team Decision Making, and Individual Series. DLC marks the start of the DECA season and begins the competition. DECA will compete in various events throughout the school year.
Mr. Hunt and Mr. Hutchins, the DECA sponsors here at HVHS, will prepare, as well as organize their students for roleplay prep and test prep to make sure they do their best possible work to represent the school. Thirty-three districts will attend their prospective District Leadership Conference from November 6th to December 13th. HVHS DECA will attend Tuesday, November 12th,2024.
According to DECA member Misri Karia (9), “DLC usually lasts a day where students who signed up to compete will do roleplays with different professionals. After everyone has gone at their designated times, they will return to school. There is also a written test that everyone in DECA must take, completed two weeks before.” This test consists of one-hundred business, entrepreneurship, finance, and lodging-related questions.
After DLC roleplays, most students get lunch and hang out while touring Roanoke College, so while DLC is about competing and showcasing skills in a certain field the event also gives DECA members a chance to make a community of life-long friends.
