Hidden Valley DECA is once again preparing for the annual state competition, SLC. With 111 students going to states, 34 teams and 37 competing as individual, many are hopeful of moving onto nationals.
SLC, also known as the State Leadership Conference, is a three-day DECA competition where all the competing teams and individuals will try to place high enough to move onto nationals.
Every year the Virginia State Leadership Conference is held in Virginia Beach, Virginia from the end of February to the beginning of March.
Hidden Valley DECA students have been preparing for the competition by taking the 100-question test required for most categories, practicing roleplays, and preparing their presentations.
The Hidden Valley DECA program will leave February 28th during the school day to arrive at night. The program will then compete, presenting their roleplays and presentations, on Saturday, March 1st, starting at nine in the morning and concluding later that day.
Mini awards for the State Leadership Conference will be that Saturday night. Mini awards include the top ten tests for each category and top ten roleplay scores for the individual and team roleplay events.
The following day the major award ceremony will take place. At the final award ceremony, the top eight contestants/ teams will be announced for each category, also announcing who will move onto ICDC, the national DECA competition. Those awarded the top three in their category will receive a glass trophy and all members of the top eight a medal.
Hidden Valley DECA members are hopeful to advance to ICDC and continue their DECA career.
