The Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Project members at Hidden Valley High School were recently recognized by the Roanoke County School Board for their accomplishments.
The Youth Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Project, also known as YADAPP, is a high school program for those who would like to address underage Alcohol and Drug abuse in their high school. This is a cause that is important to many different high schoolers for several reasons.
Hidden Valley YADAPP member Kate Kadela (9) described YADAPP as, “A club that is very welcoming, supportive, and fun. Everybody has very valuable input and good intentions for the community.”
The Roanoke County School Board decided to recognize the YADAPP team for their wonderful S.T.A.N plan which won them $250 over the summer. Whilst there, the team learned that the Roanoke Partnership for Community Wellness matched the money won over the summer leaving them with $500 to make a healthier school.
There are many reasons to support the YADAPP program. Kate Kadela (9) said, “I joined YADAPP because I feel that the topic of drugs and mental health should be addressed more and that people can feel like they can talk about it, specifically in athletics,” about why she joined YADAPP. When asked why she joined YADAPP, Addy Weaver (9) said, “I feel passionate about wanting to help addiction in our community.”
YADAPP was created as a national program for highschoolers, however it is extremely new to Hidden Valley High School. The club is made up of freshmen who wanted to bring it to our school this year.
Kadela (9) said, “I’ve been in it since this past summer and it’s been a thing for a long time in the state of Virginia, but I believe just recently brought to our school.”
YADAPP is a new club offered at Hidden Valley High School for titans who feel passionate about substance abuse in our community.
