On Thursday December 7th, the Hidden Valley High School choirs performed a Winter concert in the auditorium. The three choirs that performed were mixed chorus, chorale, and vocal ensemble. The Chorale is an all-girls ensemble, the vocal ensemble sings acapella, while mixed chorus, is more like a traditional choir.
They sang a variation of traditional and untraditional winter songs. At one point, they even called for interaction with the crowd, and allowed for the crowd to join them in singing some well-known songs.
They even had someone beat box for the vocal ensemble to raise the level of acapella! His name is Ed, a freshman who is talented at beat boxing.
The soloists were Zoey Walker (12), Suzie Metz (9), Paul Sealey (12), and Isabella Shellnutt (11).
This was Zoey Walker’s (12) first winter concert performance with the choir, and she sings in vocal ensemble. Her favorite song she sang was the Christmas Song, and this was her favorite concert out of the two she has performed so far.
Susanna Smith (12) has been in choir all high school. She sings for vocal ensemble, chorale, and mixed chorus. She was “sad that it’s my last, but excited for the spring concert!”
Susanna’s favorite song from the concert was Orion, which they sang for chorale. She commented that “though I enjoy the winter concert, my favorite is the spring concert!”
All in all, it was a successful night for the choir who worked hard to put on a stellar performance. They will be caroling on December 15th, and later on have singing valentines available before their last spring concert.
