Men’s basketball season is on the rise and the students at Hidden Valley are wondering how they will do.
This year the men’s basketball season will be especially hard, but they are going to try their best to win every game that they can. Coach Hutchins (varsity head coach) said, “we have the toughest schedule in the state, our conference is really hard so any time we can get a conference win is big time.”
When it comes to achieving greatness, practice is key. This practice has helped the men’s team greatly and they are already improving as a team. They have even solved the main problem the team had last season.
Last season the men’s basketball team had one main problem: they needed to think about the team as a whole instead of themselves. Luckily, I do not think this will be an issue anymore because Coach Hutchins is already trying to solve the problem. Coach Hutchins said, “Last year we were all about me me me and not about the team, this year we are trying to emphasize a team environment and that means offensively and defensively.” With this new goal in mind, men’s basketball has already made concrete steps in practice. Greyson Keaveney (9) stated “We act as a family on and off the court, no matter what we stick together”.
Although last year the team had some weaknesses that have already been solved in practice, this year’s men’s basketball team has also got some great strengths. Coach Morris said, “We’ve got a lot of good work ethic on our team, they’re working hard and every day they come into practice and work.” This is great news to hear because a strong work ethic in basketball can mean the difference between winning and losing a game. A strong work ethic means that this year’s team is going to be unlike one we have ever seen before.
Men’s basketball this year is looking really promising already and the season has barely begun. Whether it is their hard work ethic or their amazing teamwork, this team is going to give us a season Hidden Valley will not forget.
