The Litter Project is a project started by Aayush Patel (senior) and Eli Shartzer (senior) this school year to help collect and raise awareness for the litter problem in Roanoke.
Litter is a particularly important issue to the world today with many extinctions already a pressing issue, destroying our planet with our trash could be a devastating blow to the world’s wildlife. This is why Patel and Shartzer are trying to stop the litter problem in our community.
I talked to the founders to get more information about the project. When asked about the founding Aayush said “Eli and I started the litter project because we have noticed that litter is a big issue around not only the county but the whole world. We know we will not be able to stop the spread of litter on the entire planet, but we thought we could do our part at least in our area”
Ways to get involved are “The obvious answer is to come to our park cleanups and help us out, but we understand not everyone is available to do so. For those who cannot come to the clean ups we would really appreciate a simple follow to our Instagram and for you to spread the word to someone who may be able to attend a cleanup.”
Aayush also said that there is no confirmed number of events, but their goal is to have at least two clean ups every month until around January or February.
