This 2023-2024 school year, Hidden Valley is proud to welcome a new face to Marketing, Marissa Kopera!
Mrs. Kopera (Marketing) began teaching students at William Byrd High School. She ran into the principal while going out to eat lunch with her parents, and was asked if she wanted to substitute. Being an old student there herself, she accepted. One day while substituting, she ran into her old marketing teacher, who told her about a teaching position opening up for their Marketing class.
“I applied, talked to my principal, talked to my parents–because my mom was also a teacher- and I fell in love with it. I took the exams and I’m working on getting my certifications.”
Even though she has joined the staff at Hidden Valley to teach regular Marketing, Mrs. Kopera continues to teach advanced Marketing at William Byrd. She enjoys teaching her classes because it’s, “one of those classes where you can see real world opportunities.” But most of all, she likes working and connecting with her students to aid them in planning their future career.
“It’s such an important time socially,” she said enthusiastically. “Helping you guys learn about who you are, really. I love high school.”
For this school year, Mrs. Kopera is excited to be an advisor for DECA and watch how her students will grow, as well as see the differences in traditions between William Byrd and Hidden Valley. “Since I am at two different schools and I don’t really know anybody, I am happy to jump in with both feet and see what kind of traditions we have going on.” With her passion for assisting students in finding their own, Mrs. Kopera is sure to bring positivity and fun to Hidden Valley’s Marketing department!
