Fall 2023 at HVHS is upon us and students and teachers are just getting into the swing of things. While everyone is adjusting and preparing for the school year, Mr. Hunt, and Ruby Kasmer (12) are hard at work getting ready for Help Save the Next Girl.
Help Save the Next Girl is a non-profit foundation founded after the murder and abduction of Morgan Harrington, a Virginia Tech student, in 2009 that focuses on spreading awareness about safety.
Many schools across the country have started clubs supporting the Help Save the Next Girl foundation, and HVHS participates.
“I joined Help Save the Next Girl my sophomore year when Davis Stiles was the president,” said Kasmer. “It’s a topic that I think has always been really important, and as I joined the club, I started to see how it was more and more important. As such, I used it with my DECA project.”
Help Save the Next Girl is for all students who want to raise awareness and learn. “Last year they had meetings and inside their meetings they did activities with boys and girls.” said Mr. Hunt. “They did training and a self-defense class. A lot of it is just getting the awareness out to different people on how to be safe.”
