Spanish Club, originally started by Sophie Stringer and sponsored by Mr. Harrison, will be continuing to meet this year throughout the duration of school. It is one of the many student driven clubs that has appeared over the past couple of years at Hidden Valley High School. Many students are a part of Spanish Club and participate in surveys to determine how the next meeting will go. In the past, they have made various foods in order to embrace and learn about the Spanish culture. One member, Paige Barbour (12), really enjoys the club. She has been a member since sophomore year.
She claims, “I really like it because along with the Spanish language, we also learn about the culture and food.”
Paige (12) also says that it helps to “deepen [her] skills” because of the way they go about learning Spanish, which is through games with friends, and bringing in food.
The purpose of this club was to create a fun environment to learn the Spanish language, and so far, it has been highly successful.
Sophie Stringer (12) says she was inspired to start Spanish Club to establish an area for students who are interested in Latin American and Spanish culture.
“I really enjoy creating fun activities for the club and practicing the language in an environment that isn’t judgmental” is what she had to say about it.
Sophie (12) hopes that it will continue after she graduates. If any underclassmen are interested are interested in continuing the legacy of the amazing club, they should attend some meetings and get to see what the club is about! The schedule will come out soon! Keep an eye out.
