Women’s March Madness ended on April 7th with the South Carolina Gamecocks winning the national championship. Here are my rankings of best performers of the tournament:
- Chole Kitts
She is a forward for the Gamecocks, who in the national championship game got a double-double. She played very well throughout the tournament because that was not her only double-double. She was one of the top performers for the Gamecocks.
- Hailey Van Lith
This season statistically was a step back for her but that is something to be expected for someone who transferred to the team that won the national championship the year prior. So, although her stats took a hit, she had a good performance and played pivotal minutes throughout the tournament. She probably would have won the national championship this year if her and the Tigers didn’t run into Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes.
- Nika Muhl
Nika played guard for the UConn Huskies. She was not the first option but was very important for her team’s success. She was a scrappy player and was the glue that held the team together.
- Cameron Brink
The 6’4” forward from Stanford played amazingly throughout her collegiate career. In her senior season, she averaged a double-double. These stats are very fitting for the number two pick in the WNBA draft.
- Caitlin Clark
In Clark’s senior season, she again led the Hawkeyes to the national championship, where they were defeated by the Gamecocks. She had an amazing season averaging 31 points per game and breaking Pistol Pete’s NCAA scoring record. Her performance during the tournament was very good but was nothing out of the ordinary for the first pick in the WNBA draft.
- Paige Bueckers
She was easily the best player in this year’s tournament. She missed last season with an injury and came back and averaged 21 points per game. During her sophomore season, she took her team to the national championship game where they would lose to South Carolina. During this year’s tournament she played better than everybody. She played 40 minutes in almost every game, and she also had a double-double in almost every game in this year’s tournament.
