March Madness is finally here! It is one of biggest sporting events ever. It is a tournament with 64 teams and four divisions, including the West, Midwest, East, and the South.
The South is filled with some powerhouses and some Cinderella teams. Houston is the favorite to get out of this division, but there are some teams that could make it look a lot different. Some Cinderella teams in this division are JMU and NC State.
JMU has been looking good lately. They won their conference tournament for the automatic bid. They played some tougher opponents, but nothing at this level. Due to how the fans are talking about them they are going to be playing with a chip on their shoulder.
NC State has been on fire recently. They won their conference tournament for the automatic bid and have played a lot of competitive teams during this season. They beat a tough Duke team, a Virginia team that plays slow, and a number one seed in UNC. They have playmakers like DJ Burns and DJ Horne. Sam McCown (12) said, “NC State is the team to watch as of late. They are on fire, and it is scary.”
Houston is a powerhouse this year, being a number one seed. They beat a lot of top 25 teams this year, but they lost to some in crucial games. They are led by Jamal Shead and head coach Kelvin Sampson. They have looked good all year and played with incredibly good teams. They should make it out of this division.
Marquette is the number two seed, but they have had difficulties this year. They do not look like the powerhouse as of late. They would be lucky to make it past the Sweet 16.
Kentucky is the number three seed and has been looking good these past couple of months. They are led by Reed Shepherd, Rob Dillingham, and Antonio Reeves. They are an all-around team, and they can shoot. “Kentucky is going to a deep run this year.” Trent McQuade (12).
This division is filled with some good teams and there can be many different outcomes!
