We all know that the Chiefs won the Super Bowl this year, but let’s talk about how some people think this came to be. While most believe that the Super Bowl winner is determined by which team scores the most points and has the best players, others pin the credit of winning upon various conspiracy theories.
One of the most prominent theories recently has been regarding the colors in the Super Bowl logo. Many people believe there to be an association between the colors of the Super Bowl logo and the teams that make it to the Super Bowl. Admittedly, this has proven to be true several times over the past few years. However, this theory did not apply to this year’s Super Bowl since the colors in the logo were red and purple but the teams this year were the Chief and the 49ers. Another common theory is even a little more complex.
This theory says that the Super Bowl is scripted. What’s meant by that is that the teams that make it to the Super Bowl depend upon what’s happening in the world at the time. This year’s Super Bowl was accused of being scripted because the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl, the team conveniently associated with Taylor Swift. People believed that by the Chiefs making it to the Super Bowl and Taylor Swift being associated, this was promoting Joe Biden since she had encouraged her fans to vote in this year’s election after she voted for Joe Biden in 2020. Some people have even gone so far as to call Taylor Swift a “government psyop.” However, this theory may be a little too outrageous for people to really believe it.
To look more into the opinions of the public on these theories we talked to Mr. Luckett (AP social studies teacher and football coach). Mr. Luckett says he does not believe the Super Bowl theories stating, “It’s a sport. Is there some sort of navigation controlled by the higher ups? Sure. But when it comes to playing the game, the game is played.” Although it may be easy or even enjoyable to observe these various theories on why certain teams win the Super Bowl, ultimately the outcome is dependent on the skill level of the teams and their players.
