All the college football teams that were eligible for a bowl game this year will play against each other from December 16th through January 8th. There are 81 teams competing this year and 43 different bowl games. The bowl games range from classics, to up-and-coming.
Some of them are classics, such as the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and the Orange Bowl. The Classic Bowls are all for the higher seeds and are the most entertaining games because of the high level of play and competitiveness.
Some of the up-and-coming bowls are the Gronk Bowl, Fenway Bowl, and Bahamas Bowl. The Gronk Bowl was just announced a few months ago, and some people believe this might be the most interesting one to watch. Trent McQuade (12) said, “I’m going to make sure that I watch this one. The only thing not going for it is that the teams aren’t that good.”
“The Chick-fil-A Bowl is my favorite bowl game. It is my favorite because I love that is one of my favorite restaurants,” Jay Phelps (12) says.
A common problem standing in the way of these bowl games is that some of the standout players don’t play in fear of getting hurt before the NFL Draft. Without these teams’ stars, the team chemistry is hijacked, just like their chances of winning. The only games that usually contain the best players are the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and the National Championship game.
The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl are the two bowl games next to the National Championship. This is the last year for this format, and next year, it’s going to be a 12-team playoff bracket with even more bowl games. Fortunately, this will have more players interested in playing instead of sitting out and gives more opportunity for other teams to sneak in one more win.
The NCAA advertises these games heavily and makes changes in order to gain more profit. They roughly make 679 million dollars, but also lose some of this money to participating schools. Next year with new changes, they estimate to make 1.9 billion dollars.
