The end of the regular football season is around the corner for our district football teams. Last Friday, the schools played their last game until the playoffs. Hidden Valley played Patrick Henry; Cave Spring played Pulaski County; Salem played Blacksburg; Northside played William Byrd; and William Flemming played Staunton River.
Hidden Valley is not expected to make it to the playoffs. Cave Spring may make it to the first round. It will be exciting to see who wins the regional championships. Hidden Valley finished their season with a record of 1-9. It was a good season, with some amazing catches and touchdowns. The team never gave up trying, playing games as they saw fit. Cave Spring finished the season with a record of 3-7; only losing by one touchdown to Pulaski, making the final score 27-20. Salem took the win against Blacksburg; their final record was 9-1. It will be interesting to see who makes it how far in playoffs, and what various teams will make it to the regional championship. Northside took a loss against William Byrd, finishing their season with a record of 2-8. Staunton River also took a big loss against William Flemming with a score of 28-0.
Historically, Salem ends up winning the regional championship. They are known for their bulldozing football team. They even have a couple commits to two Division I schools, including the University of Georgia.
All in all, it was a season full of ups and downs, but each team played well. Good luck to the teams in playoffs, and to those who will be playing in the 2024 football season!
